What is Dana?

Dana, a Pali word meaning 'generosity' or 'to give freely,' is central to Buddhist practice and involves giving without expectation of receiving something in return. It is a practice of recognizing our interdependence with all beings and the giving and receiving which is Life itself. In Buddhism when practitioners share their understanding of the teachings and practice, it is offered freely as a practice of dana paramita. Ways to practice dana include sharing with all beings when opportunities arise in everyday life, supporting places of spiritual practice and those who hold the space through teaching and ministering to others, giving without expectation or judgment when opportunities arise. Dana is an important practice for learning to live in peace and harmony with all beings.

Work Practice

In the Soto Zen tradition there are three aspects to what we call “Practice”: Meditation, Study and Working Together. Work Practice is a practice of mindfulness - being aware of what needs to be done and doing it without hesitation. When working together we have the opportunity to embody the teachings in everyday life.

Monetary Dana

Your financial contributions help fund meditation sessions, retreats, educational programs, and the upkeep of our temple. By supporting the temple we are able to offer a space where anyone can find refuge and a place to explore spirituality in a deeper way. Every dana gift is a gift of the heart, regardless of size.

Legacy Donation

Legacy Donations offer a way to ensure the future of the Sangha and the practice for the future. By including Great Tree in your estate plans, you create a legacy that continues to support and nurture the practice, and helps preserve meaningful teachings and traditions.
